The British Medical Journal released the results of a study which found that income inequality is related to an increased risk of hospital readmissions. However, the study found no link between income inequality and increased risk of death within 30 days. Another study recently released by the Journal of American Medical Association found no link between hospital readmission rates and mortality rates. Other hospital factors studied that had no influence on readmission were structure and teaching status. These studies give us an insight into the complicated task of reducing readmissions.
